Born and raised in Fredericton, New Brunswick, David has been playing and teaching guitar for over twenty years. After obtaining a B.A. (philosophy major; music minor) from the University of New Brunswick, and doing graduate work in philosophy at the University of Toronto, David chose to pursue music full-time. His performance career has included musical theatre pit bands, jazz ensembles, solo performances, and a six-month tour in the show band of the Celebrity Equinox cruise ship.
More recently David has developed a growing reputation as a screen composer. His projects have included the Canadian Comedy Award-winning web series Space Janitors, the Canadian Comedy Award-winning feature film Pure Pwnage: Teh Movie, and most recently the Canadian Screen Award-winning web series peopleWatching, season two of which has just premiered on cbc.ca. His composition work earned him Best Original Music nominations at the 2015 IAWTV Awards and the 2018 T.O. WebFest.
David has always felt teaching is a important part of a well-rounded musician’s life, and one of the most rewarding. He has taught all popular styles of music, including rock, pop, blues, jazz, country and classical, and has prepared students for both university entrance examinations and RCM examinations. He consistently tailors his approach to the needs and interests of the individual student, emphasizing the importance of both short-term and long-term goal setting, and of infusing one’s playing with emotion, rather than simply playing the correct notes. He looks forward to bringing his passion, drive, and love of music to students at Yellow Dog Music, helping them give music a special place in their own lives.
David can teach in both English and French.
