Elena Rawlins – vocals/piano

Elena Rawlins is a young, motivated and driven professional vocalist, songwriter and musician who has had a career in music for the past ten years. Hailing from the islands of Trinidad & Tobago, she has performed with many prominent calypso, soca and jazz artistes from her country. She has also collaborated with well-known producers from Trinidad recording original tracks and producing jingles for local advertisements. She has represented Trinidad and Tobago at international events in Europe, the Caribbean and North America, with various groups.

Elena moved to Toronto, Canada in 2013 to pursue her Bachelor’s Degree in Music at Humber College for which she graduated with Honours. She has been afforded many opportunities to represent Humber’s music program through performances and workshops with artists like New York Voices, Emilie-Claire Barlow and Snarky Puppy. She has also been able to connect and perform with well-known musicians in the city and at Humber. She is now the leader of her own band and credits artists such as Stevie Wonder, Esperanza Spalding and Snarky Puppy as main influencers of her music.

Recent performances included performing at popular music venues around Toronto & Montreal, jazz festivals such as Kensington Market Jazz Festival & Toronto Undergraduate Jazz Festival and prominent Summer festivals such as Beaches Jazz Festival & SunFest (London, ON). Her debut EP – Illusion released in September 2017 and can be purchased as a disc or on Bandcamp.

As an educator, Elena has been teaching for the past 3 years in the areas of piano, voice and steelpan, in both private and group settings. Her extensive experience as a performer allows her the ability to instruct and shape all-rounded musicians and artists, young or old. Her aim is to bring the best out of her students, while fostering genuine passion for the art of music.
